Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.

Governors

Welcome to the section of the website where you can find out more about the school’s governors, and the work that we do.

Who are we?

There are several categories of governor, appointed by different groups that have an interest in the school.  The categories are Community, Local Authority, Parents, and Staff. All governors have equal status, regardless of how they are appointed.

What do we do?

Our main role is set the strategic direction for the school.

We do this by:

•    approving policies and objectives

•    approving the school budget

•    monitoring and reviewing adherence to policies and progress against the school's budget and objectives

•    appointing, supporting and challenging the Head Teacher

The Governing Body meets regularly to review and monitor how the school is progressing towards its School Improvement Plan. The Governing Body delegates responsibilities to committees or working groups to look at particular issues. Currently we have two committees, Resources and Standards. Standards Committee oversees all aspects or curriculum and pupil progress and attainment. Resources Committee oversees the upkeep of building, staffing and school budget. Both of these committees report to the Full Governing Body and appoint chair persons at each meeting as part of our training program for succession planning for the office of Chair. Other committees are convened as and when necessary in accordance with school policy.

We are committed to providing an excellent environment for all pupils to enjoy during their time at our school.

If you wish to know more, or are interested in becoming a governor, please contact us via the School Office or email amanda.roulstone@sutton-st-james.lincs.sch.uk.

Vicki Newton (Community Governor and Chairperson)

My name is Vicki Newton and I live here in Sutton St James. Having previously qualified and worked as a secondary school teacher, I moved into the charity sector in 2013 and now manage the communications and fundraising for an education charity. I consider myself very lucky to have attended Sutton St James school when I was younger and have many happy memories of being here. Our school gave me such a positive stepping stone for my further education and subsequent career, and so it is a real privilege to be able to give something back in this way. I very much look forward to meeting the whole school community on school days and at our events.

Sally Clifton (Associate Governor)

Hi, My name is Sally Clifton and I have lived in the village since 2002. My daughter went to this school. I run a small accountancy business and I am the caretaker of the village hall. I am a licensed reader in the church of England and I am completing the final year of an MA in theology, ministry and mission. I also run the church youth club. I have been a community governor since 2014 and I work on the resources committee. I also have responsibilities for safeguarding, pastoral care, British Values, ethnicity and diversity, and polices. I take assembly every week in term time and have officially been OFSTED rated as 'Good' which is an achievement I am very proud of. I also run the after school church club. My daughter received an excellent education and this is my way of giving a little back.

Lloyd Wyllie (LEA Governor)

My name is Lloyd Wyllie and I have lived in Sutton St James since 2011. My background is in IT which I have been doing since finishing my University degree in 2006. I am employed by Ark ICT Solutions who provide IT support to Primary Schools in Lincolnshire. I became a Governor in 2017 and enjoy working with the Resources Committee as well as supporting the Headteacher in the joint monitoring that all Governors take part in. In my personal life I enjoy fishing and playing football with my colleagues. I appreciate the school giving me the opportunity to be a Governor which means that I can give a little back to my community.

Stacey Clifton (SEND and Parent Governor)

I have lived in the village since 2007 and my daughter is currently a pupil at the school, now in her 6th year.  The staff go above and beyond to provide the best support and education, so I feel honoured to be able to give back a little by offering my time to help drive forward the school within the role of the Governing Body.

Although my previous experience has been within operational and accounts roles, I am now undertaking a Foundation Degree Teaching Assistant qualification as I look to develop my career within an education setting in the future. By working towards this qualification, and volunteering in the classroom, it will enable me to develop a broader understanding of the needs of the pupils and school setting which can be transposed through to the governor role.

Outside of school I help run the Brownies unit, enjoy reading and dancing as well as spending as much time as possible with craft projects.

I look forward to working as a parent governor, within the standards committee and SEND representation.

Joanne Buckle (Safeguarding and Parent Governor)

My name is Joanne Buckle and our family have recently moved to the area from Wiltshire. My daughter has joined Sutton St James School in the Reception year group. I have two younger children who will also be joining the school in the future.

Although currently on maternity leave, I usually work as a secondary school mathematics teacher. As a newly appointed Parent Governor in March 2020, I am looking forward to getting to know the school and working on the Standards committee.

Stephen Haynes (Parent Governor)

My name is Stephen Haynes and we moved to the area from Cambridgeshire in 2020. I have 4 children; 3 at secondary school, and the youngest in Year 2 at Sutton St. James Primary School. I have a varied background, working as a Sales Advisor all over the UK and more recently in Property Development.
I am looking forward to gaining an insight and developing into the governors role on the resources committee.

Arnie Hensby (Community Governor)

Hi, my name is Arnie Hensby and I moved from Milton Keynes to this area 8 years ago with my wife Sue who is the Pastor at Sutton St James Baptist Church (SSJBC). I also serve at SSJBC where I lead the children and youth work.  I am a retired Senior Project Manager for a large telecommunications company where I worked for 46 years so I have extensive business experience.   I am a dad, grandad and great grandad and my interests include motorcycling and Star Wars!  As someone who cares passionately about our community, I am keen to support the school in any way that I can and see this opportunity of joining the team of Governors as one way of doing this.  I have some previous, albeit rather old experience as a School Governor and I look forward to gaining a broader understanding of the current approach to children’s education.
