Swallows
Welcome to Swallows class page. Here you will see some of the amazing things we have been learning about this year.
Teacher: Mr. Quant
We work as a team to support all children and across any given day we have a variety of adults that may work individually, in small groups or leading the whole class.
Adult Support: Mrs. Pentney, Miss. Sunassee, Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs. Morgan, Mrs. Russell, Mrs. Retchless, Mrs. Viggers,
Music Teacher: Karl
Please see below for our meet and greet which sets out a lot of information about the class for parents to see.
Please see below an overview of what we will be covering in terms 3 and 4.

Science: Space Day
In Swallows we celebrated our Space themed Science day with an investigation. We wanted to see how rocks can form craters, just like on the moon. The children explained and drew what they would be doing, then tested different rocks, measuring the size of the craters they made into trays of flour. Ask your child what they found out!
DT: Make It Move!
As part of our DT topic, we have been planning and making a working vehicle, using wheels and axles. Each child then improved their designs by adding car safety features as well as using saws to reduce the length of their axles to be more appropriate.
Maths: Measuring in Millilitres
This week we have been working practically to measure in millilitres, estimating the capacity of different containers before measuring accurately, with only the odd spillage! We practised our teamwork skills, including speaking, listening and taking turns to make sure everyone in our group was able to get involved and have a turn.
World Book Day: Reading Recap
As part of world book day, Swallows class looked back at many of the books that have been read to them as a class during our daily class reading time. The children were surprised at home many we had read already this year. This exposure to stories every day has lots of positive benefits including helping to boost reading expression, building imagination and improving vocabulary.
Below is just a selection of the books we have read, these are on display in the classroom with more being added every week!
World Book Day: Cosy Readers
As part of our world book day, we all participated in a cosy read. In our comfy pyjamas, with cushions, bean bags and blankets, we had a quiet reading time. We shared stories together with friends and took a few minutes out of our day to appreciate the books we have. The children enjoyed slowing down from our usually busy working day.
Measuring Metres in Maths
We have been working practically in maths this week on our unit of measurement. We worked on a rare sunny day to measure metres accurately on the playground with a partner.
Treasure Seekers
This term we have been working on creating and following maps using compass directions. In pairs, we were able to read and follow maps to find treasure island.
Germ Busters
We have been thinking about health and hygiene this term. We conducted an experiment in Science to see the best way that we could get rid of germs. Using glitter to represent germs, we tried to clean our hands using just paper, just water or soapy water. Which do you think got our hands the cleanest?
Microhabitat Hunt
While the weather was surprisingly nice, we went on a hunt to spot microhabitats around school. Close to the classroom, we found all sorts of critters hiding just out of reach!
Mega Movements
We have learnt so many skills already this year in PE. From Yoga, having greater control over our bodies, dance; following the beat of a song and thinking about pur movements to target practise; working on our throwing skills to hit targets outdoors. What will we do next?
The Great Fire of London
Have a look at our creations made online using Purple Mash. The Great Fire of London inspired us to use digital painting tools in a range of ways.
Digital Pointillism
